Bet the term “Dark Post” would not be a strange word to you if you are in the marketing field but do you actually realize what it is and how could it benefit with your marketing campaign?

What Dark Post Is?

Despite the word “Dark” sounds somewhat threatening, it isn’t as scary as it is. The term “dark post” used to describe a post/targeted ad that is not published on the advertiser’s timeline or in the feeds of the advertiser’s followers while it only appears as a sponsored post in the news feed of the targeted audience.

However, as Facebook launches its page transparency library section last year, the audience can check all the posts now by simply going to the advertiser’s profile page transparency section at the bottom left corner.

One thing worth mentioning is that, technically, all ads on Instagram and Snapchat are dark post while advertisers are free to choose if they want their ads create with dark post or organic post on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Of all the benefits it does to social media marketing, there are 3 that worth mentioning with:

    Content relevancy carries a lot of weight in social media marketing success.     Since Dark Post doesn’t show on the page wall. You can utilize such features to do A/B spilt testing to refine and optimize your ad by putting two different content into the same pool of audience and analyst on the result.

    None of us like to be surrounded by spammy ad posts especially when they first met your page. Having all these on your wall is nothing different than asking your audience to stay away from you. Instead, having “fun-fact” and informative posts could help retaining your page followers’ interest.

We can Shop Directly on Instagram?

No doubt, Hong Kong people are familiar with Instagram Stores. Yet, not everyone knows that Instagram has opened up a new feature – Shoppable Post. That’s because this feature is not available in Hong Kong at the moment.

Instagram’s Shoppable Post is very similar to Facebook’s Shopping Collection. Just tap a Shoppable Post on Instagram to read the information about included products. Then, simply tap a “Shop Now” button to open the brand’s site through Instagram’s in-app browser to purchase products without leaving the app.

Unluckily, the Shoppable Post feature is still at the initial stage of development, and technological support is not sufficient. However, it definitely worths the wait!

If Instagram really introduces its Shoppable Posts as planned, it would be an exhilarating news for businesses! They would be immensely benefited as they could trace how many users have shopped on Instagram.

In January 2017, Facebook has refined its algorithm. Last time, we went through two changes of its algorithm. Today, we continue to review the rest of the refinement.

Facebook has decided to optimize the user experience by incorporating a new metric to evaluate videos’ prominence so as to prioritize them in the News Feed. This new metric, known as “percentage completion”, is adopted to measure the users’ engagement. If a video is watched halfway, its content is considered to be “compelling”. On the contrary, if the “percentage completion” of a video falls below 50%, it is an indication of inadequate commitment.

In other words, after this Facebook algorithm revision, long videos may not be necessarily inferior, while short videos may not always be superior.

Get Jobs on Facebook NOW!

It’s common for people to find jobs on LinkedIn. But, getting my next job offer from my Facebook newsfeed? Are you kidding me?

No kidding! Facebook has rolled out a slew of new job-hunting features in its US and Canadian sites since February 2017, attempting to challenge LinkedIn. Business Pages are able to post job openings to the News Feed through the status update composer, and host them on a Jobs tab on their page. In other words, employers can now publish recruitment Ads for FREE! However, if you would like to share your marvellous job(s) with others, of course you need to pay advertising fee. Although Hong Kong doesn’t have a job market as huge as US’s or Canada’s, and that we don’t know whether this new job-hunting feature would be launched in Hong Kong, it’s still worth the wait and the excitement!

To restore Facebook™ usage, CEO Mark Zuckerburg has decided to amend its algorithm so as to “fix” the News Feed. Facebook™ is currently de-emphasizing commercial content (e.g. brands, businesses and media publishers) and prioritizing content from friends and family.

This amendment would predictably reduce user engagement in Business Pages, driving entrepreneurs to invest more money in boosting their posts.

Facebook™ second change in its algorithm has actually been implemented before. In 2018, Facebook™ is going to intensify its efforts in fending off engagement-bait posts.

As a result, you have to be prepared that your advertising budgets for social game posts would probably escalate a fair amount in 2018!
